SONATA IN D-DARK
Photography : Brian

Model: Clifford Borg
Date: December 2003
Since the advent of Caravaggio the art world has never been the
same. Caravaggio has provided a different perspective to the viewer
with the use of dark and light - limiting the viewer’s world
and focusing on selected objects. His work is still valid today
as it was four hundred years ago, and still inspires many to follow
in his steps. The print above is related to the spirit of Caravaggio
by the use of the chiaroscuro, by his love of red and the presence
of the rope which are found in many of his paintings. It
also has reference to the element of music that was another subject
in his paintings - in this respect the person in the photograph
is a pianists who similarly has his hands on the strings of an abstract
musical instrument. It is as ambiguous as Caravaggio’s paintings
and it is up to the viewer to create the meaning out of the compostion.
